New Delhi : Opposition parties Thursday demanded Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s resignation after leaked contents of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report allegedly blamed her for irregularities in some Commonwealth Games related contracts.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat said Dikshit should leave the post until her name is cleared.
“Dikshit must resign till matter is over,” Karat told reporters here.
The CAG report leaked Tuesday faulted the Prime Minister’s Office for letting Suresh Kalmadi run the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
The report, yet to be tabled in parliament, also said the Delhi government and civic agencies overspent Rs.100 crore on streetscaping and Rs.31 crore on street lightning.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reiterated its demand for Dikshit’s resignation.
“After the Shunglu Committee, it is now the CAG that has seriously indicted her. These are independent agencies not appointed by the BJP or any other party, but the government. She must face the law and leave the post,” said BJP leader Tarun Vijay.
However, the Delhi government Wednesday defended Dikshit, saying media report quoting the CAG report “does not give facts accurately”.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi Oct 3-14.
