Gandhinagar : Gujarat Police are on an alert following the arrest of a man Thursday and recovery of 31 detonators from his car near Nadiad in Kheda district where Chief Minister Narendra Modi would participate in the Independence Day function Aug 15, police said.
Bhavesh Dasharath Patel, 24, was intercepted on the outskirts of Nadiad town, 70 km from Gandhinagar, while he was on his way to Balasinor village late evening. A search of his car led to the seizure of 31 detonators, police said.
The seizure comes in the backdrop of a threat to blow up the Krishna Temple of Dakor, located 35 km from Nadiad.
An anonymous letter was received threatening a terror attack at the temple Aug 15. The letter was received by the temple trust and passed on to police.
“Patel brought these detonators from Balasinor village and had kept them in his home for the night. He was carrying them to pass them onto some people when he was intercepted,” a police official said.
