Chennai : Police Thursday started checking local television cable operators, including those being run by kin of DMK leaders, to see whether they hold proper licence to operate their businesses as well as to beam news programmes.
Speaking to IANS, a police official here said many of these local cable operators also have a news channel and the police are checking whether they have proper licence to do the same.
He said police are checking cable operators in Tirunelvelli, Salem and other places.
A police official in Madurai told IANS that a team has gone to the office of Royal Cable Vision, run by the son of DMK leader and Union Chemical and Fertiliers Minister M.K.Alagiri.
