Washington : Sending India best wishes on its Independence Day, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said India’s story was a powerful example of what people can achieve through peaceful means.
“India’s independence movement and the inspirational leadership of Mahatma Gandhi still move people to be the change that they want to see in the world,” Clinton said in a message on behalf of President Barack Obama and the people of the US.
“At this time of profound change and hope for millions of people, India’s story stands as a powerful example of what people can achieve through the peaceful pursuit of inalienable rights,” she said.
The US, she said believed that the “US-India partnership – based on people-to-people ties and our shared values of democracy, liberty, and respect for religious and cultural diversity – will be one of the defining partnerships of this century”.
“And we look forward to continuing to partner with you as you share your story and successes with other countries around the world,” Clinton said.
“As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, in Chennai, New Delhi or anywhere in between, know that the US stands with you as a committed partner and friend,” she added.
Clinton, during her recent visit to India, had said: “I once again had the opportunity to experience India’s beauty, vitality, and dynamism.”
