Libyan diplomats tried to sell London assets

London : Libyan embassy staff in London, who were expelled by Britain, tried to sell assets worth more than 100 million pounds to finance their leader Muammar Gaddafi’s war efforts, The Sun reported.

The diplomats were told to sell nine houses, 29 cars, furniture and carpets after they were expelled from London.

British Treasury officials said the sales were “blocked” and the Libyan diplomats met with “very little success”.

Libya’s rebel National Transition Council has now taken over the embassy.

Britain recently unfroze 91 million pounds of assets for the council.
