Mumbai : A merchant vessel hijacked by Somali pirates Feb 12, was released Saturday and all its crew, including nine Indians, are safe, an official statement here said.
“MV Sinin, hijacked by Somali pirates, has been released today (Saturday). Total crew of 21, including 9 Indians, are reported safe,” said the statement from the Directorate General of Shipping.
The ship owners have provided for replenishment of stores/fuel and security for the vessel which will reach Colombo by Aug 19. The vessel is likely to be dry docked for extensive inspection.
MV Sinin is a 52,000-ton Malta flagged and owned bulk carrier. The ship was attacked by Somali pirates 315 nautical miles off Masirah (Oman) when she was on a journey to Singapore from Fujairah, the UAE.
Any further information on the release of the ship was unavailable.
