Kolkata: Government of West Bengal has recently recommended names of 255 candidates for the post of Lower Division Assistance (Clerk) in its different departments. But the shocking story is that out of this 255 only five are Muslims.
The appointment of five out of 255 comes to less than even meager 2 %, whereas Muslims constitute 27% of the total population of the state. Sachar Report highlighted the extremely poor representation of Muslims in Government jobs in West Bengal.
More shocking is the fact that even in the departments like Madrasah Education, Minorities’ Development & Welfare, all the 7 clerks recommended for appointment are Non-Muslims.
