In a statement issued here, Alagiri of the DMK said the charge levelled against him by Velumani of the AIADMK in the state assembly Wednesday was baseless.

Velumani said in the assembly that Alagiri and his associates were involved in granite quarrying business and raked in crores of rupees and later shut down the business.

Expressing surprise over the charge, Alagiri said he was never involved in granite quarrying business.

Alagiri has also written to assembly Speaker D. Jayakumar to seek the evidence from Velumani in support of the charge made against him.

The union minister demanded the resignation of Velumani if he failed to prove his charge.

Alagiri said he would take legal action if the state industries minister failed to prove his charge within 15 days.
