Women salary is secondary source of income: Survey

New Delhi : Women’s salary is a secondary source of household income with 83 percent of women earning less than their husbands, according to a survey by knowledge processing outsourcing and research firm — AbsolutData Research and Analytics, Thursday.

The survey which had responses from males as well females said that when it comes to earning money women are not too far behind with 35 percent earning more than Rs.3 lakh per annum compared to 40 percent men.

However it added that the glass ceiling was very much in place, with 83 percent of women earning less than their husbands. While majority of women felt that their financial independence had no impact on their relationship, more than a third felt it actually improved their relationship.

Only 2 percent said there was a negative impact.

When it came to spending, while women admitted they spend most of their income on garments and accessories, men preferred spending on food. Both male and female respondents said they spend a quarter of their monthly income on household consumption expenditures while 20 percent of the income went into savings.

Speaking on use of inappropriate means to climb the corporate ladder, nearly 70 percent of the female respondents said that in general, men and women are equally likely to use inappropriate means to climb the corporate ladder.
