Islamabad : Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Sunday said cross-border attacks launched from the Afghanistan side can severely damage relations between the two countries.
Gilani said in Lahore that terrorism in Pakistan was a result of the Afghan war, Dawn News reported.
Around 400 Taliban militants from Afghanistan Saturday launched a cross-border attack at several border check-points in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region, killing 25 security personnel. Around 20 militants were also killed in the fighting, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.
The attack took place in Chitral, a mountainous town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Chitral borders Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.
Gilani also said that the possibility of foreign elements being involved in the deterorating situation in Karachi cannot be ignored.
The current spate of violence in the port city that erupted in July has left over 300 people dead. At least 185 people have been arrested for involvement in target killings, extortion, land grabbing and narcotics deals.
