Sources told the Online news agency that a decision in this connection would be made at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

The sources, however, insisted there was no change in the earlier cabinet decision not to attend the conference as a protest against the NATO airstrikes on two Pakistani Army check-posts in Mohmand Agency that killed 24 soldiers Nov 26.

They said that in a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested that Islamabad should allow its ambassador in Germany to participate in the conference.

Pakistan has set a Dec 11 deadline for the US to vacate the Shamsi air base. Islamabad has also closed NATO supply lines to Afghanistan through Pakistani territory in protest the NATO strikes.

While NATO says Pakistani officials gave the go-ahead for the air strikes, Islamabad says NATO was told beforehand that the two check-posts were of the Pakistani Army.
