The event at Amravati, 150 km from here, organised by Amravati legislator Ravi Rana, also saw him tying the knot with south Indian actress Navneet Kaur.

“I am glad the function was a success,” Rana said after the ceremony.

Rana said he plans to send the entry to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest mass marriage ceremony conducted so far.

The ceremony held at the Science Core ground of the city was attended by over a lakh residents.

Over 1,000 policemen were deployed in the city for the ceremony and school and colleges also observed a holiday.
