New Delhi : The Delhi government Monday decided to regularise around 1,500 unauthorized colonies in the city after their residents pay development charges for providing amenities like potable water, roads and electricity.
Property owners in these colonies will have to pay development charges of Rs.200 per square metre. They will be given 90 days to pay the charges after the regularisation notification.
“It has been decided that an interest at the rate of 10 percent per annum would be charged in case of delayed payments,” an official said.
“The resident welfare associations of these colonies may also collect the charges and deposit them in the urban development department,” the official said.
The government earlier referred the proposal for regularisation of these colonies to a group of ministers, which has given its approval.
“The Delhi cabinet had constituted the committee, under the chairmanship of Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia, which finalised its recommendations in its second meeting,” the official said.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been told by the government to accelerate the work on the lay-out plans of unauthorized colonies so that the regularisation process could be fast-tracked.
