Lucknow : An Uttar Pradesh official has been booked for provoking her subordinate to commit suicide, police said Tuesday.
Sushila Agarwal, in-charge of secondary and senior secondary education in Mahoba district, about 250 km from here, has been accused of provoking 32-year-old stenographer Vineeta Budhauliya to commit suicide.
Budhauliya committed suicide Feb 13 by hanging herself inside her home in Mahoba’s neighbouring district Jhansi. Following this, the victim’s family registered a complaint against Agarwal.
“Preliminary investigations reveal the women official used to threaten Sushila that she would get herself suspended. The woman official, according to the victim’s family, also unnecessarily mounted work pressure,” police inspector V.K. Rai told reporters in Mahoba.
“A case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) was registered late Monday against the woman official. Further action against the official would be taken on the completion of the enquiry,” he added.
On the basis of the preliminary investigations carried out against Budhauliya, the district administration Tuesday recommended that the state government suspend her.
“I have recommended that the woman official be suspended with immediate effect,” District Magistrate Ravi Vishwas Pant told reporters in Mahoba.
