Ranchi: Punjab won the men’s gold while Tamil Nadu bagged the women’s title in the basketball events at the 34th National Games here Tuesday.
Punjab men proved too strong for Uttarakhand as they beat them 97-57 in the summit clash. Reigning champions Services settled for the bronze.
The Tamil Nadu women were a superior team than their Chhattisgarh counterparts as they crushed them 79-48 in a one-sided final. The bronze went to Delhi after they defeated Maharashtra in a close contest.
In tennis, Delhi’s Ratnika Batra defeated her team mate Prerna Bhambri 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 to reach the women’s singles final. Ratnika will meet Andhra Pradesh’s Zainab Sajjad who defeated Nupur Kaul of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-1 in the other semi-final.
In archery, Manipur women won the Indian round (50 metres) defeating Assam in the finals. Jharkhand finished third.
