Spokesman P.J. Crowley said there were “a number of steps we can take both bilaterally and multilaterally” against Libya. That “certainly includes looking at sanctions that could be imposed.”

The US and broader international community have sharply condemned Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s crackdown over the past few days on demonstrators who have taken their inspiration from similar uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.

Hundreds of protesters have been reported killed and Gaddafi Tuesday vowed to remain in power and execute all opposition protesters.
