Cape Town : Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan removed South African captain Graeme Smith as the hosts reached 21 for one at lunch on the opening day of the third and last cricket Test here Sunday.
Smith was trapped leg before in the seventh over before rain brought in the covers after two more overs. Early lunch was taken following the suspension of play due to poor weather conditions.
Alviro Petersen was batting on 13 and Hashim Amla on 1.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was finally lucky with the spin of the coin and decided to put South Africa to bat in overcast conditions.
Petersen struck S.Sreesanth for two fours in the second over before the seamer sorted his length and bowled some probing deliveries.
Zaheer troubled the batsmen, extracting good movement from the surface.
Earlier, India, who are looking for their series victory in South African after an emphatic series-levelling win at Durban, included regular opener Gautam Gambhir, who sat out the second Test due to an injury, in place of Murali Vijay.
