“Dilip Mahato, secretary of CPI-M’s Jambedia branch committee in Sankrail police station area was found dead this morning,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar.

“He was dragged out of his house Thursday night and his bullet ridden body was recovered near a field this morning (Friday),” he added.

In another incident, the Maoists triggered a landmine blast inside the house of a CPI-M leader in Nadaria village near Salboni area.

“A group of 15-20 armed rebels attacked Nemai Sen’s house Thursday night. As Nemai was not there at that time, the Maoists dragged out his father and beat him up severely. Later a major portion of the house was blown up by triggering landmine blast inside the house,” said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, some Maoists’ posters were noticed Friday on the walls of a CPI-M party office and local club in Gangulibagan area in the southern Kolkata, a police official said.

The Jadavpur police were soon informed, who in turn reached the spot and removed the posters.

“The posters said that three local CPI-M leaders are carrying out atrocities and they will be given capital punishment very soon,” said a senior police officer of South 24 Parganas district.

“There is no influence of the Maoists in the area, so we are quite doubtful about the authenticity of the posters,” he added.

An investigation had been initiated to find out those behind the incident, said the officer.
