Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time in the history of the Muslim League in Kerala, the party will have two general secretaries – ET Muhammed Basheer and KPA Majeed. The decision was taken in the state working committee meeting of the party held in Thiruvananthapuram today.
ET Muhammed Basheer will be in charge of public affairs and KPA Majeed in charge of organizational affairs. State minister Dr MK Muneer stepped down as state secretary. Outgoing general secretary and the League’s Parliamentary Party Leader PK Kunjalikkutty explained the decisions of the Working Committee in a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram. State president Hyderali Shihab Thangal also was present.

KN Muhammed Kunji (Kannur) and A Muhammed (Alappuzha) have been selected as vice-presidents. Kutty Ahammed Kutty, MC Mayin Haji, PMA Salam and MI Thangal have been appointed secretaries. MA Muhammed Jamal (Wayanad), PK Abdul Qader Moulavi (Kannur) and Kalathil Abdulla (Palakkad) have been elected to the Secretariat.
Former member of Rajya Sabha Mr PV Abdul Vahab is in charge of the Chandika Daily, the mouthpiece of the party.
After the stepping down of PK Kunjalikkutty in the Working Committee meeting held on June 5 in Kozhikode, the League has not been able to select a general secretary. The committee had asked the state president to appoint the general secretary. While a group supported Mr Basheer, Kunjalikkutty reportedly supported Mr Majeed, especially since the former had talked against the party’s inability to get good representation in the government despite its wonderful performance in elections. Mr Majeed, known as a strong supporter of Kunjalikkutty, can now be in charge of the party’s organizational affairs. And the party can utilise the comparatively good and clean image that Mr Basheer has in the public.
