Highlights of the new policy on FM radio channels:
— FM radio expected to cover over 300 cities with 839 new channels
— FM channels to be allowed to carry news from All India Radio
— These will be allowed to broadcast information regarding employment opportunities, health alerts and other public announcements
— Government expected to earn Rs.1,733 crore from auction
— Foreign investment limit raised to 20 percent to 26 percent
– Private operators can own more than one channel but not more than 40 percent of the total channels in a city and subject to a minimum of three different operators in the city
— Lock-in period of promoter shareholding reduced to 3 years from the current 5 years
