New Delhi : A year after the implementation of the right to education (RTE), lack of awareness and accountability are emerging as obstacles in the implementation of the act that provides free and compulsory education to children between six and 14 years, experts said Wednesday.
“Parents are unaware about the act. They should question the school authorities about the act, and know they have a right to do so,” said Kiran Bhatty, national coordinator, RTE, National Commission for protection of child rights (NCPCR).
“We will soon have a grievance redressal system for parents,” Bhatty said while emphasising on accountability of the RTE.
According to survey conducted by Samajik Suvidha Sangam Society, run by Delhi government, around 2.42 lakh children are out of school in the capital.
“As far as infrastructure in MCD schools is concerned, we are making sure all arrangements are made in schools. Around Rs.1,400 crore has been spent on infrastructure, we have 1,729 computers with internet facility and over 4,000 teachers in schools,” said Mahendra Nagpal, chairman, MCD Education committee.
