Moradabad incident acts as a political fodder

Lucknow: Moradabad incident has turned into a political battle. Several politicians were arrested while moving to Moradabad on Thursday. Officials cited section 144 as the reason behind detainment of the leaders.

Moradabad MP and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin was stopped while he headed for Moradabad on Thursday. The UP Congress Committee termed it as an autocratic attitude of the state government where even the local MP Azharuddin was stopped from meeting his electorate. The Congress demanded registration of case on police officials involved in the incident. UPCC chief Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi and national secretary of the party Parvez Hashmi has also announced to visit Moradabad on Friday.

Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was detained at UP gate Ghaizabad while he was on his way to affected area in Moradabad. His nephew and Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav too was detained along with him. SP leader Azam Khan was detained in Rampur while he tried to move towards Moradabad. The SP leaders termed the incident as unfortunate and demanded cases against police officials. Meanwhile, SP workers took to street in Lucknow. They blocked the Vidhan Bhawan road and also squatted outside the Rajbhawan. Youth wing leader Anand Bhadauria and Sunil Yadav led the protest. They were arrested and sent to police lines only to be released in the evening.

Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was also detained by police while he was on his way to Moradabad. Irked over the act, Naqvi claimed that the state government has ushered in a gundaraj in the state.

Peace Party also has demanded action against the police officials who misbehaved with the females in Moradabad. The party threatened to launch an agitation exposing the communal face of the government. The party demanded registration of cases against the guilty police officials.

Rashtriya Lokmanch leader and MP Amar Singh also has announced that he will lead his party’s delegation for Moradabad on Friday. Singh dared Chief Minister Mayawati to arrest him as he is going to wipe the tears of the injured. “The act by police officials where Holy Quran was desecrated reflects the anti-Muslim face of the state government,” he said.
