Dhaka : India has handed over houses to 1,600 families who were hit by a major cyclone in 2007 in Bangladesh, an official said.
The families in Sharankhola of Bagerhat district Saturday got the new houses that were constructed by the Indian government, the Daily Star reported.
Food and Disaster Management Minister Abdur Razzaque and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Rajeet Mitter handed over the houses, said a food ministry official.
As many as 1,200 similar houses will be handed over to the cyclone victims in Morelganj shortly.
Cyclone Sidr hit Bangladesh’s southwestern coast Nov 15. It affected over three million people.
