Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar said about 3,000 megawatts have been added to national electricity grid over the last three years.

“We are doing our best to bridge the power demand and supply gap,” Associated Press of Pakistan quoted the minister as saying.

Qamar claimed that the electricity situation worsened as the previous government did not start even a single mega-project to meet the growing electricity demand of the country.

Pakistan’s power shortfall has now reached 5,000 MW. The country is generating 13,240 MW against a peak demand of 18,065 MW.
