Beijing: China Thursday released a report that said the country has fulfilled all targets of its national human rights action plan.
“All targets and tasks set by the National Human Rights Action Plan of China (2009-2010) have been fulfilled as scheduled,” Xinhua reported citing the report released by the State Council Information Office.
The report said all the goals were achieved in due time by the end of 2010.
The state council office published the action plan in April 2009 – China’s first on the theme of human rights.
Various governmental, legislative and judiciary organs, as well as social groups and non-governmental organisations assessed the implementation of the action plan.
The government adjusted the economic structure and maintained economic growth with improving people’s livelihood, and took prompt measures “with an investment of over four trillion yuan (around $615 billion)”, said the report.
It also accelerated infrastructure construction, and sped up ecological and environmental construction, and raised citizens’ incomes, especially that of low-income groups.
With the government’s efforts in human rights education and publicity, the public’s awareness of human rights has been greatly enhanced over the past two years, according to the report.
The report, however, admitted that the cause of human rights in China was still facing many challenges.
