New Delhi: The US-India Women’s Empowerment Dialogue, which will see both the countries explore ways of collaboration to further social, economic and political empowerment of women, will take place here September.
“The Women’s Empowerment Dialogue is planned for September 2011 in New Delhi,” said the US-India Strategic Dialogue joint statement issued after talks between US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Tuesday.
The Women’s Empowerment Dialogue, first started in 2009, serves to highlight how women are key in important issues like security, economy, health, education and climate change.
In the year of its inception, India showcased public-private-partnership (PPP) projects like the “Nanhi Kali” programme addressing issues like female foeticide and girl education and the work of self-help groups.
In Washington last year where the second US-India Women’s Empowerment Dialogue took place, the Indian delegation learned ways of tackling domestic violence by visiting an intake centre and seeing how the police and civil society was working together to help the victims.
The statement added that India and the US plan to host their third annual Women in Science workshop in September this year with the aim to attract more women in the field of science and technology.
