Efforts on to promote tourism in Bengal: Minister

Kolkata : West Bengal Tourism Minister Rachpal Singh Monday blamed the erstwhile Left Front government for neglecting the tourism industry and said his government will take steps to make the state an attractive tourist destination.

“Tourism has totally been neglected under the previous government. Tourists often fail to get the required facilities,” he said.

The minister also said that for developing tourism in north Bengal, night safaris and conducted tours have been planned.

“Unless, you have a night safari for the wildlife of north Bengal, what will you enjoy? We are planning in such a way that people with their family and children, they go, they stay, enjoy the sport, adventure sport, sea-sport, other sports. There should be something for everybody.”

Apart from assuring that the state will become a major tourist attraction, he said the government will be performing its duty of facilitating as well as regulating the industry.

He said the official website will be improved and the tourists would be able to get all the required information.

Union Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed also blamed the former government for not promoting tourism and said the industry will be revived by the initiatives of the new government.
