New Delhi: Protesting the death of Faiz Usmani, Maulana Mahmood Madani, general Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind held Maharashtra ATS responsible for this inhuman incident. Jamiat leader and Rajya Sabha MP alleged that Faiz “died of brutal mental and physical torture meted out to him in police custody.”
“Who has given authority to police to harass an accused to such an extent that he bursts a vein because of all the tension?” Maulana Madani questioned. He refused to buy this reason that he merely suffered owing to arrest and interrogation because he said it was not a first kind of experience for Faiz. He was reportedly at several occasions questioned after his brother Afzal Usmani’s connection to Ahmadabad Blast. Afzal is already in jail.
Maulana Madani criticized ATS chief Rakesh Maria for failing to keep his word that no community would be targeted and impartial and overall investigation conducted. He charged that the intelligence is seeking to find scapegoats to cover its failure by harassing a particualr communty. “The govt must come forth to discourage such attitude instead of verbal statement. I am always in the belief that there is huge number of communal elements in police and intelligence agencies. Unless they are cleansed, proper leads and better functioning can not be expected.” He said
He demanded judicial enquiry into death of Usmani and just compensation to him. “We need to upgrade our intelligence to prevent another terror strikes and also tackle the crisis of credibility in investigation and conviction’’ said Madani.
