Istanbul : An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Turkey Monday evening, causing panic among residents of its Istanbul city, Xinhua reported.
The quake had its epicentre in the Marmara Sea at a depth of 15.3 km, said the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory.
The quake struck at 8.57 p.m. (5.57 p.m. GMT) in the Marmara Sea close to the town of Tekirdag, which is approximately 121 km west of Istanbul.
Three smaller aftershocks were also reported.
However, no damage to any property was incurred following quake, said authorities.
