Patna: Leading Muslim organizations in collaboration with various civil and human rights groups will hold a massive protest march here in Patna on 28th July against the Forbesganj police killings. After the daylong sit-in to demand a CBI probe into the June 3 killings and proper compensation to the victims, a delegation will meet Governor of Bihar Devanand Kunwar.

The program is part of the measures adopted at a meeting of Muslim organizations earlier this month to put pressure on the state government to act for justice to victims. A delegation of the Muslim groups visited the Bhajanpur village of Forbesganj in Araria district on 15th July and met the victim families.

On June 3, 2011, police had opened fire at the poor villagers when they came out to protest against the blockade of their approach road by an upcoming factory. Four persons including an infant and a pregnant woman were killed and about a dozen others injured. The Bihar government has not taken any action against the police officers involved in the killing, nor has it announced any compensation to the victims. The government, however, set up a judicial commission to the probe the incident. The commission has been given six months to submit the report.

About three weeks ago, the Muslim organizations had sought appointment with CM Nitish Kumar to present their demands but the CM is believed to have trashed the request.
