Kolkata : Reacting to West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra’s allegation of mismanaging the state treasury, former state finance minister Asim Dasgupta Wednesday said a discussion between the two could solve a lot of “misunderstandings”.
“The honourable finance minister had earlier told me that he wants to meet me and discuss the financial issues of the state. I had told him please come. But I think due to his engagements, he could not find time. I am looking forward to the meeting. Actually, a meeting between us can sort out a lot of misunderstandings and solve many problems,” Dasgupta told reporters here.
Reacting to Mitra’s allegation that the previous Left Front government had urged the central government for a grant, but later said that it was not required, Dasgupta said: “It is true that we had asked for special central assistance Nov 2, 2010 for 2010-2011. But in the Dec 4, 2010 communication to the central government…no demand of central funds were made because that communication was not made for central assistance for 2010-11 but for current financial year 2011-12.”
When asked whether the new government, led by Trinamool Congress, made those comments to malign the Left Front, Dasgupta said: “I am not a psychiatrist or a political analyst to comment on this matter. I cannot say anything regarding it.”
