A jirga (community council) of Madakhel tribe in Torghar district imposed the ban on mobile phones with cameras in the areas where the tribe lives.

The daily Dawn quoted sources as saying that the meeting was convened to discuss the murder of Mohammad Yasin. He was killed last week for taking a picture of a local girl on his mobile phone.

The jirga said that camera use was prohibited in the area, hence the use of cellular phone with camera was also being banned.

“Anyone who defies or violates the jirga’s decree will be punished by confiscating his phone set and imposing a fine of Rs.10,000 on him,” the jirga said.
