“I have come here with high hopes that my brother will be released. I will meet human rights organisations and take up his case,” said Dalbir Kaur, who reached Lahore Monday to meet her brother’s lawyer Owais Sheikh, the daily Jang reported Tuesday.

Dalbir Kaur said she had brought pickle, sweets, roti-saag, new clothes, fruit and some other things for her brother, presently lodged in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore, and hoped she would be allowed to give these to him.

Sarabjit, who has been languishing in Pakistan jails for more than 19 years, has been convicted of staging four bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan in 1990 that claimed 14 lives. He has been awarded death sentence.

Sarabjit’s family claims he inadvertently crossed into Pakistan in August 1990 in an inebriated state and was arrested there. But police in Pakistan claim Sarabjit Singh, who is known as Manjit Singh there, was involved in acts of terrorism.
