New Delhi : Amid rumours of yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s expected visit to social activist Anna Hazare’s protest venue here, security has been beefed up at Rajghat, police sources said Wednesday.
While 500 police personnels were already present at the venue since morning, around 200 more personnels were deployed after reports that Ramdev was leaving Hardwar to reach the venue of Hazare’s fast.
According to the source, around 50 women constables were deployed with clear instructions that every woman is to be checked properly. The instructions come in the wake of Ramdev attempting to flee the Ramlila Ground wearing women’s clothes early June 5.
The road around Rajghat has been barricaded, and senior police officials of deputy commissioner and joint commissioner ranks are present at the venue.
“After a camp held by yoga guru Baba Ramdev ended in disaster over the weekend, we are not taking any risk. We have deployed heavy security and another 500 police personnel are kept in reserve to tackle any untoward incident like June 5,” a senior police officer said.
Anna Hazare began his token fast at Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, at 10 a.m. to protest the police crackdown on Ramdev and his supporters at Ramlila Ground early June 5.
“Four body scanners have been installed at the venue, match boxes, cigarettes are not allowed inside the premises of the fast area,” Joint Commissioner of Police, Security (Law and Order), Sudhir Yadav told IANS.
