Kolkata: Terming the crackdown on Baba Ramdev’s hunger strike in New Delhi as the Congress party’s “fascism”, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari Wednesday dubbed the ruling party as one of “mother and son”, and declared that the BJP would not allow Sonia Gandhi’s ploy to impose Emergency in the country.
“The incident which happened at the Ramlila Ground is Ravan Lila. The crackdown on Baba Ramdev’s fast programme reveals the restlessness of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government. What happened is fascism and cannot be tolerated. The BJP will not tolerate it,” said Gadkari while addressing party workers here.
“What kind of atrocity is this? Old people, children, and women were beaten up as they demanded the return of black money stacked in foreign countries. The Congress talks about the non-violent movement of Gandhiji and this is what you get when you conduct a non-violent movement,” said Gadkari.
The police had evicted Baba Ramdev and his supporters from the Ramlila Ground in New Delhi June 4. He was on a fast against corruption.
“Earlier, the Congress had imposed Emergency. The people of the India still remember that black chapter. I want to say that if Soniaji (Congress chief) tries to move away from the path of democracy and tries to impose Emergency, we will not tolerate it,” he said.
He said the crackdown showed the lack of tolerance on the part of the Congress led United Progressive Alliance government. Gadkari also blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the various scams from 2G to CWG, which has rocked the nation in the recent past.
“What was Manmohan Singh doing when 2G scam and CWG (Commonwealth Games) scams were going on? The prime minister and this UPA government only gave rights to loot this country. Each and every file was signed by Manmohan Singh, if Suresh Kalmadi (former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief) is responsible, then why the prime minister is not responsible,” said Gadkari.
“They are looting the country and if somebody raises his voice against black money and corruption in a non-violent way he is beaten up. Soniaji and Manmohan Singh should answer if this is a new kind of Emergency in this country,” said Gadkari.
The BJP chief said while innocent people were being beaten up, (Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah) Geelani and (writer) Arundhati Roy went scot free after speaking of dividing the country,” said Gadkari.
Gadkari said the BJP will not tolerate such kind of situation in the country.
