“I have come to meet him to discuss various developmental and industrial issues of the state. We have come to inform him about various things and seek his guidance on numerous issues,” said Partha Chatterjee, while talking to mediapersons outside Somnath Chatterjee’s house.

“I told him that we would like his able guidance and advice while running the state. I have just come to convey the message on behalf of our leader Mamata Banerjee,” he said.

Somnath Chatterjee, a former central committee member of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), was expelled from the party in 2008 for ignoring the party’s decision to resign as the Lok Sabha speaker after a disagreement with the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government on the civil nuclear deal with the US.

This is not the first time that Partha Chatterjee came to visit the former speaker. After the Trinamool Congress won the assembly polls last month, Somnath Chatterjee had sent his best wishes to Mamata Banerjee, who reciprocated by calling on the octogenarian leader and seeking his blessings before taking over as the new chief minister. Partha Chatterjee had also accompanied her then.
