“The attacks on the CPI-M and Left Front leaders and workers show what is going to happen in future. The forces which the ruling alliance represents are trying to annihilate the left leadership and workers in a planned manner,” CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said in a signed article in his party’s Bengali mouthpiece “Ganashakti”.

The article was written to observe the coming to power of the Left Front government in this state June 21, 1977.

It was also the first time that the anniversary was being observed after the Left Front’s 34 year-old uninterrupted reign came to an end in the assembly elections last month.

Karat said after the Left Front’s defeat, there as a coordinated attempt at nullifying the successes of the coalition.

“The Left Front’s debacle is being analysed in a way as if the masses have rejected all the good work that we had done. This is a motivated attacks by the anti-left forces”.

The CPI-M leader said an ideological warfare has also been launched against the left.

“They are trying to tarnish the Left Front rule. The aim is to rob the masses of the rights that they have earned during the Left Front regime,” he said.

“An effort is on to destroy the organisational structure of the CPI-M and the Left Front. Because the present rulers know that this structure is the base on which Bengal’s toiling masses launch their struggles,” Karat said in his article.
