“We have been given time till July 6 to submit the report on the ongoing investigations into the Dey case,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy told mediapersons.

He added that till then, the court would not transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as demanded by three public interest writ petitions filed in the matter.

A division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More granted the police more time for the probe and file its status report.

Dey, Editor (Special Investigations), Mid Day tabloid, was gunned down near his residence at Powai, north-east Mumbai June 11, leading to a nationwide furore.

Earlier this afternoon, a group of senior editors from different newspapers and television channels called on Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan demanding that the Dey murder case be handed over to the CBI.
