Kolkata : The West Bengal government Friday presented a vote-on-account of Rs.11,165 crore for two months — August and September – of the current fiscal.
Presenting the vote-on-account in the state assembly, Finance Minister Amit Mitra said: “The government will spend more on infrastructure, health and education, among others.”
Special attention would also be given on improving the underdeveloped places across the state, including Junglemahal, he said.
Stating that the government was committed to implementing an all-round developmental policy across all sectors in the state, he said: “We will leave no stone unturned in this regard.”
Later, talking to mediapersons, Mitra hinted that due to time constraint the vote-on-account was presented instead of a full-fledged budget.
“Our government is only one month old. Preparations for central budget start before six months and in case of states, at least three to four months are needed for finalising the budget proposals,” he said.
Earlier, before the assembly elections former finance minister Asim Dasgupta had presented a vote-on-account for four months – April to July.
