New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the state police over the death of deputy chief medical officer Yogendra Singh Sachan in judicial custody.
“NHRC, taking cognizance of media reports and a complaint regarding death of Yogendra Singh Sachan in judicial custody, has issued notices to the chief secretary, Uttar Pradesh, district magistrate and senior superintendent of police, Lucknow, calling for magisterial enquiry report, inquest report, CD of post-mortem and its report, viscera report and the final cause of death,” a statement issued by the commission said Friday.
“The commission has also directed the district magistrate and superintendent of jail, Lucknow, to explain as to why the information about the death in judicial custody was not communicated within 24 hours to NHRC, as per its guidelines,” it added.
The commission has asked for the reports within four weeks.
Sachan, who was lodged in a Lucknow district jail, was the main accused in the murder of chief medical officer B.P. Singh. Sachan was found dead in mysterious circumstances in a toilet of the jail June 22.
