New Delhi: Exactly a month after the low-intensity bomb blast in the parking lot of the Delhi high court, cops have failed to achieve any break through in the case. At present they don’t have any evidence to suggest the culpability of any group or individual behind the low intensity blast which occurred on May 25.
Most importantly, the police have maintained the involvement of sleeper cell of Indian Mujahideen (IM) in the blast. In fact the UP police had also made two vital arrests in the case. Gulfam, a resident of Pilkhuwa village from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on May 27, in a joint operation of the Special Cell of Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS).

At the time of arrests, the cops claimed that Gulfam and his associate Nafees knew one terrorist who used to stay in their village and either of the two must have supplied the explosives to those responsible for the blast.
Claiming that the blast had all the trade mark of IM involvement, the Director General of police UP, Brij Lal told media on May 27, “We have evidences which suggest the involvement of Indian Mujahideen in several blasts across the country.”
“The blast outside the Delhi HC was part of the series of blast by the sleeper modules of IM,” Lal added. Lal talked about “two batches of IM activists” which comprised “a team of well-trained terrorists and another of trainees.”
But at this stage, the investigative agencies have failed to substantiate its above mentioned theory alleging the role of IM behind the blast. Police haven’t provided any update on what happened to their theory about Gulfam and the cleric who was arrested from the Nizamuddin area in connection with the blast.
Several steps like questioning 50 people and analyzing footage from the CCTV cameras installed within the premise of the court, have failed to yield any results to the cops. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is yet to give its report about the blast.
Media reports suggest that the investigative agencies haven’t got any evidences which could link the allegedly terror group with the blast and they are still struggling to find evidences through which they can link IM with the blast.
In the present situation, cops are likely to thoroughly explore the ‘dump data’ of phones in order to identify and locate any suspicious calls made in the premise or in any nearby location of the Delhi HC.
In the situation when cops struggle to crack the case, they are taking help from IB officials and the police of nearby states and those of Mumbai, Gujarat and Rajasthan for any information about the members of IM.
