London : British military trainers working with a Pakistani paramilitary force have been withdrawn at the request of the Pakistan government, BBC reported.
The trainers – believed to number about 20 – were working with the Frontier Constabulary.
It is a paramilitary force fighting against the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province but is also deployed across the country on various occasions.
British military trainers had been training and assisting the force in military operations as part of a three-year programme that started in 2010.
The ministry of defence here said the withdrawal was due to “security concerns” but added that it was temporary.
“Britain has been asked to withdraw some of its training support teams on a temporary basis by the Pakistan government in response to security concerns,” a spokeswoman said.
“We are providing training support at the invitation of the Pakistan government and welcome their advice on these matters. The training teams will continue their own training and will be ready to redeploy at the first possible opportunity.”
The US has already withdrawn more than 100 military trainers.
