Police rescue children from traffickers

    New Delhi : Seven girls, including four children below the age of three, were rescued from a gang of traffickers in Madhya Pradesh and 14 people were arrested, a statement from an NGO said here Friday.

    According to Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), a Delhi-based non-governmental organisation, whose complaint initiated the police raid, the girls were rescued from Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh March 8.

    “The children were aged between six months and nine years. They were kidnapped from Indore, Omkareshwar and Khargon in Madhya Pradesh and sold to traffickers,” the statement said.

    The girls were sold for as low as Rs.20 to as much as Rs.60,000, it added.

    As many as 14 kidnappers and traffickers have been arrested and charged for immoral trafficking.

    The BBA said that all the children have been sent to Apna Ghar, a shelter home under the direction of the child welfare committee.

    “This crackdown proves that children as young as six months of age are going missing in the country and are trafficked for the purpose of flesh trade,” BBA said in the statement.
