New Delhi : In a blistering attack on Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Congress Thursday said a private trust owned by his family had accepted a donation of Rs.27.18 crore from a sister organisation of an industrial house on a reciprocal basis.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi slammed Yeddyurappa over the trust, formed by his son and relatives, allegedly receiving huge donations from the industrial house having business interests in Karnataka.
He alleged that Prerana Educational and Social Trust received “enormous” donations from the industrial house in a “quid pro quo”, as the company owns a joint venture in the state.
The Congress salvo against Yeddyurappa comes a day after former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) chief H.D. Kumaraswamy had made the allegation, claiming the trust received the donation in 2008-09 and 2009-10 in the form of a corpus donation for which Chief Minister’s office rendered official favours to the company.
Describing the development as “extremely serious” and an example of “nepotism”, Singhvi demanded an explanation from BJP on the issue. “A non-existent body received Rs.27 crore from various entities. Some of the money obviously came for nepotistic consideration. This is open loot,” Singhvi said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has dismissed the allegations against its chief minister.
