Mubarak Gul, adviser to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, argued with opposition members from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Jammu State Morcha (JSM), who raised the issue.

JSM member Ashwani Kumar alleged that the government was delaying the appointment of the vice chancellor because of its “discriminatory attitude towards Jammu region.”

While the opposition members were making their point, Gul entered into a heated argument with them.

This prompted Ashwani Kumar to question Gul’s “locus standi” and his right to speak on the issue.

“In what capacity are you making noise and trying to shout us down,” Kumar asked.

Abdullah intervened and charged the Jammu-based opposition group with “politicising the issue”.

“You have politicised the issue and restricted the choice of the vice chancellor of the Central University for natives of Jammu only,” the chief minister told them.

It was the second time in less than a week that the assembly witnessed noisy scenes on the delay in the appointment of the vice chancellor.
