Led by their state presidents, the Congress and the BJP delegations visited Digahi village, where 10 people, including five children, were killed in a caste feud between some Thakur and Brahmin families.

Demanding a judicial enquiry by a sitting judge into the carnage, Congress state president Rita Bahuguna-Joshi sought “immediate transfer of the local police officers, in whose presence the vandalism and murders took place”. She termed the incident as “a mockery of law and order”.

BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi, while holding the state administration and police officers responsible for the killings, demanded stern action against the officials. “This incident is a blot on the government, which must order a judicial probe together with a compensation of Rs.10 lakh to the kin of victims,” Shahi said.
