Ahmedabad: The death sentence to 11 people convicted in the Godhra train carnage case has been referred to the Gujarat High Court for confirmation. The hearing is scheduled for April 6.
Special Court Judge P.R. Patel Feb 22 held 31 accused guilty of “pre-planned conspiracy and setting fire” to coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express Feb 27, 2002, on the outskirts of Godhra railway station. Twentyone people were given life sentence and 63 were acquitted.
The death sentences by the lower courts are required to be referred to the high court for confirmation.
