Li Baodong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, announced this Tuesday after a closed door meeting of the 15-nation council.

It adjourned the consultations Tuesday after some members raised doubts if such a zone would work. The council will meet again at 11.00 a.m. Wednesday, Li said.

At the meeting Tuesday, Lebanon, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, tabled a draft resolution that called for a no-fly zone over Libya. France and Britain, the co-authors of the resolution, have explained why it was necessary to set up a no-fly zone. The Arab League has also supported the plan.
