Poll panel to review election preparedness in West Bengal

Kolkata: Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi along with senior poll panel officials will hold parleys with West Bengal officials and police March 22 to review preparedness for the forthcoming assembly polls, an election official said Thursday.

Two Election Commissioners and Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi will accompany the poll panel chief.

“The full election commission bench will come to the city March 22 night and hold a series of meetings at a city hotel with administrative and police officials to review preparedness for the elections,” said Additional Chief Electoral Officer N.K. Sahana.

“Qureshi flanked by V.S. Sampat, H.S. Brahma, Zutshi and Director General (Expenditure Monitoring) P.K. Dash will hold meetings with political parties from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. They will hold talks with the District Election Officers (DEOs), Police Superintendents, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspector Generals and Inspector Generals of police,” Sahana said.

“After that the bench will have discussion with the State Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh, Home Secretary G.D. Goutama, Director General of Police Naparajita Mukherjee and Commissioner of Police R.K. Pachnanda and this will be followed by a press conference,” he added.

The EC team will leave for Delhi March 24 morning. Six phased polls will be held in West Bengal from April 18 to May 10.
