Four NGO members beaten up while rescuing 22 child workers

New Delhi: Four members of an NGO, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, were allegedly beaten up by some unidentified people while rescuing 22 children working for Rs.10 a day at a construction site in east Delhi, police said Thursday.

The incident took place at a construction site in Jheel Khureji area of Geeta Colony Thursday afternoon.

“As soon as the members of the NGO arrived at the spot with some police officers, some people attacked and injured four of them. They were shifted to hospital,” a police officer said.

Police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the accused.

“Two of the victims have been identified as Brijwan and Kailash while the identity of the other two victims is yet to be ascertained,” added the officer.

“Our team rescued 22 children from the spot. All children are in the age group 10-14. These children were working for Rs.10 a day,” added a member of the NGO.
